UPDATE 12/16/17: I'm so in love with this bag. Everyone who sees it loves it too. The color is getting deeper and richer all the time. Can't say enough how pleased I am with it...I literally just opened the box from being delivered, and at first glance I like the bag. It comes wrapped in plastic paper so it's decently protected in the box. The pictures show it in the plastic wrap and then immediately after I removed it. The straps aren't secured into the buckles, I guess this is just for shipping. It was quick and easy to get them buckled. You can see in the pictures, on 2 of the buttons there is some plastic behind them. I was able to get one piece off but the plastic on the middle button is a little more difficult. I'm just assuming that the buttons came in plastic wrapping and this was part of the installation process and just wasn't removed. I don't think it's going to be a big deal for me though.One of the buttons is rusty and corroded looking/feeling. The other two are new looking and normal. My husband likes the look, so I guess we'll let it slide. It kind of gives it a more retro look.I read quite a few reviews before I bought this bag, and several of them mentioned a smell. I can definitely vouch for the reviews that said there was a smell. It's not horrible but it's definitely stronger than I expected. It's a combination of new leather and I guess the material that they put on the inside and maybe a little glue. I'm hoping that this will fade relatively quickly so I can begin using the bag.It fits my files fine I'm able to get a few in there plus a small one inch ring binder. I don't really carry a lot of files at once so this will be suitable for me. But I think that I might could be happier with a little bigger bag, maybe the 18 inch bag. But overall it's suitable for now.The shoulder straps are tucked inside the bag itself so when you open it you just Buckle them and off you go. I slid the shoulder protection flap over the side of the strap with a buckle so it would fit more on top of my shoulder while I'm carrying the bag. It came on the opposite strap but it was no big deal to switch it to the other one. One of the pictures you will see a piece of thread that wasn't secured when I pulled it it pulled about an inch out. I snipped it so I'm hoping that there will be no issue with the separation on that scene. If there is I'll definitely update.The color is a combination Brown and caramel, it's very pretty. You will definitely want to condition it, but I did not find the leather overly stiff straight out of the box. It did have some flexibility to it. I conditioned mine with Brick 4 leather conditioner and it really enhanced the color of the leather and I can already feel a little more flexibility to it.The bag is clean and rugged looking, and for the price I'm very pleased.
